Application Techniques

Applying the Ultra Durable Floor Marking Tape 971 is a simple process that involves proper surface preparation, careful measurements, and precise application techniques. In this section, we will guide you through the steps to ensure a successful application, allowing you to create clear and long-lasting floor markings for improved safety and efficiency. 

There are a number of steps to be taken to ensure that the tape is applied correctly.

Firstly we have to ensure that the surface to apply the tape on is clean, dry, and free of any debris or contaminants to promote better adhesion. Next, using a measuring tape, accurately mark the areas to be applied by the tape and cut it using a pair of scissors or a sharp utility knife. This ensures precise and consistent markings.

When the tape is cut to the desired length, carefully peel off the polypropylene liner from the back of the tape, exposing the adhesive side and firmly tack it down to the surface. Optimal adhesion is obtained when both the tape and the surface are within 16°C to 27°C. While doing so, follow the guiding line and gently peel off a small portion of the liner at a time to prevent the tape from sticking to unintended surfaces. (Figure 2)

When joints are required, such as at corners or splices, a miter joint or butt joint is recommended as seen in Figures 3 and 4.

Once the tape has been applied, smooth the tape down using a roller to eliminate any bubbles to ensure full adhesion of the tape to the application surface. Lastly, use a sharp knife to trim any excess length or overhanging edges.

Surface Preparation

Before applying the tape, we first have to prepare the surface. The Surface has to be as clean, dry, and smooth as possible. If the tape is being applied on floors, they have to be cleaned to remove all traces of oil, grease, moisture, and any accumulation of waxes or dirt. 

Moreover, when using cleaning solutions, ensure that they do not leave waxes or residue on the surface to which the tape would be applied. Always allow for sufficient time for thorough drying of the cleaning solution prior to the application of the tape. 

Lastly, for personal safety, wear appropriate protective equipment when sandblasting, scraping, sanding, or grinding.

Removal Techniques

Before removing the tape ensure that the surrounding area is clear of any obstacles or hazards that could hinder the process.

Firstly, locate a starting point along the edge of the tape as it makes it easier to lift and peel off. Next, gently lift the tape up at a perpendicular angle. Maintain a steady and controlled motion to prevent the tape from leaving residue behind.

After removing the tape, apply adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth and rub the residue until it dissolves. 3M Citrus Based Cleanser or many solvents such as heptane or toluene can also be used to soften the residue.

Lastly, wipe away any remaining residue with a clean cloth and clean the surface with mild detergent or cleaning solution and water. This is to ensure that the area is clean and free from any remaining residue or dirt.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store the tape under normal conditions of 16°C - 27°C and 40% - 60% relative humidity in the original packaging material. To obtain the best performance, use the tape within 18 months from the date of manufacture.
